The shelter along Weymouth Esplanade, built in 1937, is being demolished.
Weymouth and Portland Borough Council staff have already begun removing the shelter in an effort to "improve the view from the area around the King’s Statue towards the
beach," according to a Council spokesperson.
The shelter has become a hotspot for drunks and vagrants and is seen by many as an eyesore. Many local businesses in the area of the shelter welcome the move.
The Council have also stated that the Shelter will not be replaced and will start work next week in an effort to repair pathways damaged by the removal.
It will not affect the older, smaller Victorian shelters along the esplanade, these have been renovated and the council say that they are being kept.
